Title Simple Asset Placer
Description **The minimal 3D asset placement addon for Godot 4 — drag assets in, transform them with the keyboard and chain rows of pieces without leaving the viewport.**

Simple Asset Placer 3.1 builds on the 3.0 rewrite: a compact asset browser dock and an inline keyboard transform engine that works everywhere, plus keep-placing chains.

### Key Features

**Keep Placing**

• Double-click an asset (or press Enter on its row) to spawn one instance under the cursor and pick it up

• Hold Shift while confirming (or flip the new dock "Keep placing" switch) to keep the placed piece and carry a fresh copy — every Enter/LMB lays down the next piece

• Drag & drop with the modifier held starts a chain from the dropped asset; chains started from the dock follow the selected row

• Works on picked-up scene nodes too: the confirmed selection stays put and duplicates of it are carried (a whole multi-selection as one group)

• Each confirm is its own undo step — Esc/RMB drops only the carried, not-yet-placed piece

**Inline Keyboard Transforms**

• Rotate (X/Y/Z), move (W/A/S/D + Q/E height), scale (L/K)

• Works while dragging an asset from the dock or the regular FileSystem

• Fine steps (Ctrl), large steps (Alt), reverse (Shift) — hold-to-repeat

• One undo step per drag/pick-up session (Ctrl+Z restores everything)

**Pick-Up Mode**

• TAB picks up the selection — it follows your cursor over surfaces

• Grid snapping follows the editor's "Use Snap" toggle (Ctrl inverts, engine-style)

• Snap to Floor with PageDown — drops onto the surface below and locks height

• Ignores the carried node's own collision (no more flying-away nodes)

• Confirm: TAB / Enter / LMB — Cancel: Esc / RMB (restores original transforms)

• Confirm with Shift held (or the Keep placing switch on) to stamp duplicates of the selection instead of ending the session

**Quick Duplicate Stamp**

• V duplicates and picks up the copies — stamp with LMB, V again for rapid variations

**Shortcut Shield**

• Ctrl+X / Ctrl+C / Ctrl+S are captured while transforming — no accidental cut or save

• QWERTZ-friendly: keys are matched by keycap label

**Asset Browser Dock**

• Grouped list view — folders as collapsible group headers

• Engine-generated thumbnails, live search, native drag-and-drop

• Double-click spawns an asset under the cursor, picked up and ready to transform

• "Keep placing" switch in the dock header for one-click chain placement

**Fully Configurable**

• Every key and step value lives in Editor Settings → simple_asset_placer/

### Format Support

GLTF/GLB, FBX, OBJ, Collada, TSCN/SCN, TRES/RES and more

### Requirements

Godot 4.x (developed and tested on 4.7) | MIT License | No dependencies
