Hey guys? I was wondering whether GLESE2 is ‘universal’. I am targetting REALLY low end devices, so this is a major concern. This is the reason I am not using Godot 3, but Godot 2.1 and now waiting for 3.1
Is not universal, because every manufacturer implements whatever they want and there is no standard certification that forces them to implement things in one way and make it right on the video part, at least.
But it should work on most of the current running hardware if we are talking about android devices and windows PC with Intel GPU, also Switch and Xbox via UWP.
On Mac OSX and iOS may stop working in a couple of years when they finally cut OpenGL support but by that time MoltenVK should be pretty much stable on that platform.
