Can you define the fullscreen resolution?

I know how to setup the window size and to toggle between low- and high-res (going to fullscreen crashes an app) but it’s unclear to me, how to define the fullscreen resolution (on macOS). Depending on the dpi-switch it seems to be fixed (half/full-res).
