Help on connect_node of GraphEdit

Hello to you,
Could you help me on the function connectnode ( String from, int fromport, String to, int toport ) of EditGraph. I need to understand the information "from, fromport, to, to_port" because I need to store them. But I don't understand the meaning of the numbers they provide.
Is there any documentation on this somewhere?
