This addon will give you more control over selecting and deselecting objects.
Features :

Select / Deselect all nodes.
Select / Deselect children of currently selected nodes.
Select/ Deselect objects by name or node type (class).
Filter Name and Type Selection to children of currently selected nodes.
Invert current selection.
