BetterTileEditor 0.1.0 2D Tools 4.6 Community
Submitted by user cidwel; GPLv3; 2026-09-29
A fork of BetterTerrain by Portponky, with extra terrain modes and editor tools for TileMapLayer. It aims to become an alternative to Godot's built-in map editing tools.
Drop-in replacement: the autoload is still called BetterTerrain, so existing code keeps working.
What's added:
- Patch terrains: paint a region from a sample, keeping its borders and end pieces
- Multi-tile objects and forest painting: whole trees that keep their outlines and trunks, even when they overlap
- Scatter painting at the density you choose
- Automatic cliff faces: paint the plateau and the rock faces follow its edges; stack layers for terraced hills
- Slope tool for platformers: steep (1x1) and gentle (2x1) slopes, on floors and ceilings, plus freehand
- Single-tile and tile-group brushes
- Terrain groups, search and favourites
- Terrain thumbnails and previews
- Brush sizes from 1x1 to 8x8
- Map selection, copy, paste and stamping across layers
- Fill by visible area or current layer
- Live terrain updates and a floating editor dock
- Must-not-match peering rules
Godot 4.6+ (tested on 4.6 and 4.7). Works from GDScript and C#.
Install: remove the original BetterTerrain if installed, then enable BetterTileEditor in Project Settings > Plugins. Keep the folder name better-tile-editor.
