How to use .PCK

I am having trouble understanding how to use .pck to export only parts of my project. When I export a given scene it doesn’t appear to export .obj files used by meshinstances in the scene?
How am I meant to slice up the project to best utilize this feature?

For example we’re currently working on a 3d car game with lots of shared materials and textures. Say we want to add more cars in the future, what would be a good way to setup materials, textures, meshes etc…
