Why space between lines in a label is so large?

I have this 8 px tall font with 6 px ascender and 2 px descender.

But if I add a new line there is suddenly a 6 px high space between lines.

I know I can set a -6 px spacing but I want to know why is there a 6 px gap here in the first place?

Could it be the font? What does it look like if you use a different font?

It is still 6 pixels even with the default font. And if I make my font 2 or 3 times bigger - still 6 pixels.
