Do variations of the same block have to be different blocks in tilemap?

If I have a lot of blocks and I want a sloped version from each sides which equals 4 more blocks so if i had 100 blocks that would equal 500 tilemap blocks. Which is a lot. Is there a way to just modify the blocks or is this the only solution?
