Controls: Custom Constants vs Margin

In a standard container, what is the difference between setting the margins in the margin section vs in the custom constants section? Thanks!

Edit: My guess is the Margin section deals with it, and the custom constants deals with its children, but why not just set the margins of its children instead? Or adding another margin container?
