Repeated Editor Freezing on Windows (Godot v3.5.1)

I upgraded to from Godot v3.4 to v3.5 a few weeks ago and since then keep getting Editor freezes on Windows, probably once every 30 minutes. The screen tends to “flash” a bit, if I have the game running it’s still responsive, but the Editor just freezes. It won’t repsond to clicks, and I have to force kill it using task manager. Occasionally I see the pop up for “creating thumbnail” just before the freeze, but not always.

Has anyone experienced this before and can offer a possible solution? It’s getting really frustrating and totally gets me out of “the zone” mid flow! I’ve considered reporting it as an issue but I can’t reliably reproduce it, so I assume any issue I report will just be closed.

I have a similar issue (v3.5). It happens sometimes when I edit my translation.csv file outside the Editor, save it, go back to Editor and instantly press Play. The game runs fine but the Editor freezes and I have to restart Godot. I can’t reliably reproduce it either and it only happens with one project.

That is interesting - I have a hunch it’s something to do with the Editor attempting to live update the running game and getting stuck. I actually just removed one of my UI components I suspected and haven’t had the issue in a few hours…going to keep testing but fingers crossed that might have narrowed it down…

I think you are on to something … I spent yesterday making sure Aesprite was closed at all times and didn’t have the Editor freeze once. Possibly it’s something to do with OS level file locking? When I get some time I might try and narrow it down in to something reproducible; adding this comment so that others with the same issue might see it. Thanks for the tip.
