What settings affect vehicle traction? (3D)

I have a vehicle that starts to slide at high speed and then usually goes into an uncontrollable skid. What values do I need to change to improve its traction? There are obviously lots of settings under each wheel, but changing them all doesn't seem to improve the traction and stop the skidding.
