Hello, I don't know how lights work and I'm trying to figure out how does this happening.

Here I have one light source, a solid mesh right above it, and it still shines through. The ceiling above the light is much lighter than the same ceiling some distance away. I totally don't get it. How does it work?

I couldn't recreate it in a new scene. I tried to recreate it with just two cube meshes to figure out when exactly it goes wrong, but everything was fine in a new scene. So I guess this is something local.
