For Spatial and Node2D

var global = to_global(direction)

For all other use cases you have to do some matrix math
Something like multiplying the transforms

by (4,972 points)

But you didn't provide enough information for that all you said was local, direction, global

Huh, that actually worked. Can't believe I didn't try something like that...
