GraphEdit - creating 'swim lanes' that stick to the grid

Hi guys! Is it possible to create objects that would stick to the graphedit grid just like graphnodes do, but which are not graphnodes? I’m thinking of creating a program board type thing where you have teams down the left vertically, and sprints horizontally. Then you could create tasks and drag them to team lanes on the board and link them to show dependencies etc. The challenge is that the lanes would have to always be behind the graphnodes and you would need to be able to lock them so you don’t select them by accident. And of course they’d need to be attached to the grid so they scroll along with it…
